DXF Scale & Rotate

Local

Scale, rotate, mirror or move DXF geometry and save a new DXF file. Runs in your browser with no AutoCAD, no sign-in and nothing uploaded.

Sample data loaded — click "Transform & save as DXF" to try it.

Transforms use the drawing origin (0,0) as the base point; order: scale → mirror → rotate → translate. Mirrored text keeps its glyphs unmirrored (DXF TEXT has no mirror flag). Ctrl+Enter to run.

What is it? DXF Scale & Rotate rescales, rotates, mirrors and translates every entity in a DXF drawing and writes a new DXF, preserving lines, polylines, circles, arcs and text. Everything runs locally in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

TL;DR: Scale, rotate, mirror and translate a DXF drawing, then save a new DXF — preserving lines, polylines, circles, arcs and text. Set the factor, angle, mirror axis and offsets, compare with the original in the preview, then download. Free with no login; everything runs locally in your browser, nothing uploaded.

How to use

  1. Drop a .dxf file into the input (or use "or load a file") — or paste ASCII DXF text from any text editor.
  2. Set the scale factor, rotation in degrees, the mirror axis and the X/Y translation offsets.
  3. Click "Transform & save as DXF", check the before/after preview ("Show original (before)" toggles the input), then copy the result or download transformed.dxf.

FAQ

Is the origin configurable?

No — rotation and scaling use the drawing origin (0,0) as the base point, applied in the order scale → mirror → rotate → translate. If your geometry sits far from the origin, rotate it around its center in your CAD app first, or translate it to the origin before transforming.

Are text angles adjusted?

Text positions are transformed; rotation is applied to the whole drawing.

Can I mirror (flip) a drawing?

Yes — the Mirror select offers Horizontal (X negated, left-right flip) and Vertical (Y negated, up-down flip). Mirroring negates one axis, so arc start/end angles are swapped automatically to keep DXF arcs counter-clockwise; text positions and rotation angles follow the mirror, but glyphs themselves are not mirrored (DXF TEXT has no mirror flag). Negative scale factors are rejected — use the mirror option instead.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Yes — transforming uses a free daily allowance and needs no sign-in. Batch runs and larger quotas are the paid Pro tier.

Can I scale or rotate a DXF without AutoCAD, SolidWorks or Fusion 360?

Yes — this runs entirely in your browser, so no CAD software is needed. Set the scale factor, rotation angle, mirror axis and X/Y offsets, check the before/after preview, and download the new DXF. In SolidWorks or Fusion 360 the usual route is a scale/rotate operation on the sketch; here you skip the software entirely.

How is this different from the DXF Unit Converter?

The Unit Converter changes drawing units (mm, cm, m, inch, foot) and rewrites the $INSUNITS header to match. This tool applies a geometric scale factor, rotation, mirror or translation you choose yourself — the output is always normalized to millimeters using the input's $INSUNITS, but the goal is a transformed geometry, not a unit change.

What happens to dimensions, hatches and text when I scale?

HATCH, DIMENSION and LEADER entities are not supported and are skipped (counts are reported). Text positions and angles follow the transform, and when you mirror, positions and angles are swapped to keep DXF arcs counter-clockwise — but the glyphs themselves are not mirrored, because DXF TEXT has no mirror flag. Everything lands on layer 0 (color 7) in the rebuilt output.

Examples

  • Scale a drawing up 2x, rotate it 90° and translate it, then export a new DXF.
  • Mirror a laser-cut part vertically and translate it away from the origin, then export.

Limitations

  • Output is always millimeters (mm): the input's $INSUNITS header is read and coordinates are truly converted to mm (inch drawings ×25.4, 1 in = 25.4 mm), so the header and values agree; unitless/missing headers pass values through unchanged.
  • Output is a rebuilt DXF: everything lands on layer 0 (color 7); source layers, colors and linetypes are not preserved.
  • Unsupported entities (HATCH, DIMENSION, LEADER, …) are skipped; drawings over 200,000 entities are truncated — verify the entity count after transforming.
  • Splines are approximated as polylines through their fit/control points.
  • Ellipses are approximated as polylines (72 segments).
  • Bulge arcs in polylines (group code 42) are sampled into arc polylines so the curve is preserved (chord endpoints exact).
  • Block references (INSERT) are exploded into loose entities before transforming (depth ≤ 4); block structure and dynamic-block behavior are not preserved, ATTRIB texts are dropped.
  • ASCII DXF only (re-save binary DXF as ASCII).
