FAQ
Does it modify my drawing?
No — it only reads and reports; nothing is changed or uploaded.
Why do I see zero entities?
Binary DXF is not supported; export ASCII DXF from your CAD tool first.
DXF or DWG?
This tool reads DXF (ASCII). DWG is a closed AutoCAD format — export/save as DXF first.
How do I check a DXF before laser or CNC cutting?
Drop in the file and read the report: total entity count, the per-type breakdown, per-layer counts, the bounding box and the version. An empty drawing, geometry on an unexpected layer or an outsized extent shows up before you cut anything.
Can I count entities per layer?
Yes — the layer depth table lists every layer with its entity count, ACI color and linetype. Layers without a TABLES entry show a dash instead of a guessed default, and the whole layer list can be copied as text.
What DXF version is my file?
The report reads $ACADVER from the header and maps it to the AutoCAD release (AC1015 → AutoCAD 2000, AC1032 → AutoCAD 2018). Unknown codes are shown as-is rather than guessed.

Limitations
- ASCII DXF only — re-save binary DXF as ASCII from your CAD tool.
- Bounding box is approximated from entity points (circles and arcs are bounded by their extent).
- Processed locally in your browser — your file is never uploaded.
- Blocks (INSERT) are counted but not expanded.
- Layer colors and linetypes are read from the raw TABLES section; layers without a TABLES entry show a dash (never a fabricated default).
