Gerber Layer Stackup — Alignment Check, No Upload
LocalOverlay a full set of Gerber and drill files to check layer alignment before fabrication, or diff two revisions — in your browser, no upload. Pro feature.
Drag files here, or click to browse
Supports GBR, GERBER, ART, DRL, TXT
Choose fileDrop multiple Gerber/drill files: stack layers (multiply blend) for alignment check, or compare two layers for structural differences (apertures, counts, bounds, flashes).
What is it? Gerber Layer Stackup overlays multiple Gerber and drill files into an interactive composite view (wheel zoom, drag pan, per-layer toggles, fit) to verify layer alignment before fabrication — zoom in for fine-pitch registration; Compare mode diffs two files for structural changes (apertures, flashes, counts, bounds).
TL;DR: Drop in a full set of Gerber and drill files to overlay them in one zoomable view with per-layer toggles, and check layer registration before you order. Compare mode diffs two revisions down to apertures, flashes and bounds, with a structural diff report and a composite SVG export. A Pro feature — everything is processed locally in your browser, nothing is uploaded.
How to use
- Drop multiple Gerber/drill files at once (.gbr/.gerber/.art layers, .drl/.txt drills).
- Click "Stack layers" — layers are auto-ordered by X2 FileFunction when present, otherwise by filename.
- Check alignment in the composite view — wheel zoom, drag pan, toggle layers, Fit to re-fit; fine-pitch registration is best verified zoomed in (drill-to-pad included).
- Download the composite SVG to share the aligned view — the export follows the current layer toggles, so hidden layers are left out.
- To diff two revisions, open the Compare tab, pick two files, and download the structural diff report (Markdown or JSON).
FAQ
Which files can I load?
Gerber (RS-274X) copper/soldermask/silkscreen and Excellon drill files.
Is it local?
Yes.
Is it free?
No — Gerber Layer Stackup is a Pro feature; on the Free plan this page shows an upgrade prompt.
Does it do stackup design or impedance calculation?
No — this tool overlays Gerber layers for registration checks; it doesn't do stackup design or impedance calculation (use your fab's calculator; final values come from the fab). For structural differences between two files, use Compare.
How are layers ordered in the stackup?
Layers carrying X2 FileFunction attributes are ordered automatically; otherwise the order is inferred from common filename prefixes (KiCad, Altium, Eagle and other EDA conventions). The recognized layer count and order are shown after stacking, so you can verify it — misinferred order is not flagged, since no X2 metadata exists to check against.
Do all layers have to come from the same design?
Yes — layers align by absolute coordinates, so export every layer from the same board file. Files from different designs or unrelated revisions will not line up.
What does Compare report?
Structural differences between two files: aperture usage, flash and feature counts, board-outline bounds, and any uniform shift. It is a structural diff, not an electrical or netlist comparison.
Can I check copper-to-drill registration?
Yes — drop in the copper layers together with the Excellon drill file, hide the layers you don't need, and zoom in on fine-pitch pads to eyeball drill-to-pad alignment before you order.
Examples
- Drop in a full set of .gbr/.drl at once → auto-sorted into one aligned composite
- Switch to Compare and pick two revisions → see pad/flash/outline differences
- Output a composite SVG (multiply blending)
Supported formats
Limitations
- Layers align by absolute coordinates — export all layers from the same design.
- Layers composite with multiply blending.
- The composite is interactive: wheel zoom (pointer-centered), drag pan, per-layer visibility toggles and Fit. At least one layer stays visible; the downloaded SVG follows the current toggles.
- Compare reports structural differences (apertures, flashes, counts, bounds, shifts), not electrical comparison.
- Without X2 attributes, layer order is inferred from filenames (common EDA prefixes covered).
