Choose fileHEIC/HEIF (iPhone photos) can't be decoded by this browser — export them as JPG first. Encoder-level fine parameters (quantization tables, chroma subsampling) aren't exposed by the browser Canvas platform; resize quality above is the available control.
Resize/convert/compress locally (EXIF stripped). Width/height 0 keeps original aspects. Cmd/Ctrl+Enter to run.
Width/height act as maximums: images shrink, never enlarge; with both set, the image fits inside the box proportionally. Use an image editor to upscale.
What is it? Image Convert & Compress resizes, converts and compresses a single image to JPEG, PNG, WebP or AVIF with control over quality, dimensions and resize quality. AVIF/WebP support depends on the browser — when unavailable the output falls back to PNG named by its real format.
TL;DR: Convert one image between PNG, JPG, WebP and AVIF — and resize or compress it — locally in your browser.
How to use
- Open an image — any format your browser can decode (PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP).
- Set the output format, quality, resize quality, and optional max width/height (we shrink, never upscale).
- Convert & download — the file saves automatically; compare before/after in the preview.
FAQ
Which format is smallest?
WebP usually gives the smallest files at similar quality, followed by JPEG; AVIF can be smaller still where the browser can encode it.
Is it private?
Yes, conversion happens locally.
Can it upscale an image?
No — width and height act as maximums, so images are only ever shrunk, never enlarged; setting both fits the picture proportionally inside that box.
Does it support HEIC photos from an iPhone?
No — the browser cannot decode HEIC/HEIF, so the tool rejects them with a clear message. Export the photo as JPG or PNG first.
Which formats can I convert between?
Any image your browser can decode goes in — PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, GIF or BMP — and you can export JPEG, PNG, WebP or AVIF. Animated GIFs keep only their first frame, and HEIC/HEIF (iPhone photos) can't be decoded: export them as JPG or PNG first.
Can I compress an image without changing its format?
Yes — pick the same format as the output and lower the quality. WebP and JPEG compress furthest; PNG stays lossless whatever you do. The before/after preview shows the size change before you download.
How do I convert a PNG to JPG without losing quality?
Set quality to high and the output to JPEG. Some loss is unavoidable — JPEG is always lossy — and transparent areas flatten to a white background. Keep PNG, or choose WebP/AVIF, if you need transparency.
Can I convert several images at once?
This tool handles one image per run. For a whole folder — batch resize, batch convert and a ZIP download — use the Batch Image Compressor & Converter on the same site, also local with no upload.
Examples
- Drop in an image → pick format/quality → download

Limitations
- No layer/editing features — this is a converter.
- Animated GIFs are flattened (first frame only).
- Width/height act as maximums — we shrink, never upscale; both set = fit inside the box proportionally.
- HEIC/HEIF (iPhone photos) can't be decoded by the browser — the tool rejects them with guidance to export as JPG/PNG first.
- Resize quality (low/medium/high resampling) is selectable; encoder-level fine parameters (quantization tables, chroma subsampling) aren't exposed by the browser Canvas platform.
- AVIF/WebP encoding depends on browser support — if unsupported, the output falls back to PNG and is named by its real format (never mislabeled .avif).
- JPEG output has no transparency (white background).
- Processed locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
